From the Pier

I’m on vacation in North Topsail this week with my family and my wife’s family.  Yesterday my wife and I peeled away from the pack and drove down to Topsail and visit Jon.

I emailed with Eternal Reefs and they gave me directions to the beach/pier that is closest to Jon’s final resting place.  Turns out the pier is the Jolly Roger Inn & Pier.  We paid our $1 and walked to the end of the pier where a few salty fisherman were casting lines and telling tales.  With the help of GPS we got as close as possible while still attached to the land.

At the end of the pier we had a nice moment of silence followed by a few carefully selected Phish songs.

  1. Prince Caspian
  2. Wading in the Velvet Sea
  3. Bittersweet Motel from Star Lake ’98
  4. Trench Town Rock also from Star Lake ’98

Right as we were leaving the fisherman caught a 3 – 4 foot spinner shark.  It jumped and spun about a bunch of times before the line broke and it swam away.  I like to think that was Jon saying he approved of the playlist.

Miss you buddy.

Glad you celebrated with Jon ! I’ll play the songs today too….from a medium I talked with recently Jon plays guitar a lot and lives in “nature,” like in the ocean ! He visits you and everyone and you will know when he comes because a song plays…or a memory ….or a “feather” or “penny” shows up in your path.
